Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler was a highly decorated Green Beret in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was also a musician and songwriter, best known for his hit song "The Ballad of the Green Berets," which became a number one hit in 1966. Sadler was born on November 1, 1940, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and died on November 5, 1989, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. After the war, Sadler struggled with physical and mental health issues, eventually leading to his death at the age of 49. Despite his challenges, his legacy lives on through his music and service to his country.
